As we prepare for what will undoubtedly be one of the album highlights of 2010 Critical Music let slip
a mouth-watering 12” sampler to turn all eyes in the direction of one of the most respected producers
in the game, Sabre. Two very different tracks that’ll leave you counting the days until his album ‘A
Wandering Journal’ finally drops in late March.
First up ‘Marvel’ sees Sabre opting for the now infamous kick and rim-shot sound, a movement he’s
played a vital part in developing. A deft hand and in-depth studio knowledge lets the music drift deep
into the subconscious with its subtle sparse but deadly bass, fx and mid-range tweaks creating an
uneasy sci-fi soundscape. Perfectly executed.
Flip over and Sabre teams up with the Subtitles-signed Ulterior Motive to take the vibes back to the
dance floor. ‘Barefoot’ is a killer, make no mistake, with its bouncing b-line that changes up
throughout and crisp percussion that’ll have the heads skanking hard. Fans of the Ed Rush & Optical’s
‘Wormhole’ era take note, this one’ll get you twisted.
