Austria’s premier D&B camp Mainframe Recordings are without doubt on a very large roll at the moment with
a mammoth release schedule lined up for 2010. Taking a step away from their usual big room sound though is
the Rebound EP, a digital-only EP designed to show a whole new dimension to the label.
First up label boss DisasZt gets deep and dirty on the title track ‘Rebound’, a slice of off-kilter drum and bass
that really shows the Austrian don experimenting with his sound whilst still retaining his definite dance floor
edge, with nasty vox and snarling bass that twists and turns throughout. Next up it’s the turn of Exorcist,
Imprintz & Kloe who treat us to the rolling sounds of ‘Dusk’, a track that manages to conjure images of exactly
that. A cinematic intro paves the way for some rich running breaks, grandiose choral chants and heavily
reverbed guitar licks that make for a warm body-surrounding sound as the techy bass carries us away.
Then on the C-side Eastcolours takes things more leftfield with the almighty bass-heavy vibes of ‘The
Message’. Thunderous kicks coupled with textured hand claps manage to carry the track as the awesome vocal
sample and raining chimes take it to a whole new level.
It’s then left to BTK & Resound to round things off and they do so in fine style with the dub-infused flex of
‘Phantom Serenade’, a track dripping in shuffling breaks, deep subs and naughty percussion that keep things
moving nicely.
Plays from DisasZt, Shimon, Bassline Smith, Dirtyphonics, Body & Soul, Matrix, Futurebound, DC Breaks, Phetsta
and more.
