Indigo’s genre bending label is back after a brief hiatus
with a stunning 3 track 12” from Synkro.
Sitting in the middle ground of Ambient Electronica, RnB
& Garage these luscious workings manage to capture
the essence of Synkro’s sound. Showcasing a prescient
snapshot of a producer who operates in a constant state of
flux and who is already highly respected for his work across
numerous genre structures. The Mindset label continues
to break down the regular blueprints and have influenced
a swift change of direction in the current bass movement.
Over the past year Synkro has released some of his finest
work to date on seminal labels Exit, Critical & Med School
and being heavily utilised within the Autonomic podcasts.
With more releases being anticipated individually and
collectively with Indigo on Exit and Gilles Petersons
Brownswood Electric label, the coming year promises
lots of light for this shining star.
The A side ‘Look At Yourself’ gathered an instant following amongst the bass
music community with Skream and Benga unexpectedly debuting the dubplate
on their prime time BBC Radio 1 show only a few days after it was finished. The
hype is audibly justified, his trademark soulful vocals manipulated to precision
sitting delicately atop a shuffling beat, blending beautifully with lush chords and
glacial atmosphere. A curse and a blessing in the same instant, the track was
cut and put up on Youtube within minutes of the track being aired and reaching
several thousand views in a very short space of time. Tried and tested in the
dance making the ladies weak at the knees and spreading a wave of love in a
time where aggressive, generic noises make the forefront...showing the level of
maturity and understanding of sonics in an untouchable way.
Flipping to the B the 1st track ‘Girl’ fuses woozy, breathing pads and an infectious
acid funk bass line. Cavernous space and crisp drum programming, clever vocal
edits and a hooky vibe gets you singing along in no time at all. It quickly became
an anthem in Manchester and will surely catch on throughout the rest of the
collective consciousness.
Moving onto B2, ‘It’s’ finishes the 12” taking a stripped back and refined direction rendering a slick 2 step beat, oscillating
chords and chopped vocal melody. Working to a hypnotic effect with a hefty slice of subbass underpinning the whole
journey, a short treat for the ears. Sinking deep into earthy tones and textures Synkro shows no shame in baring his soul
to the world and encouraging people to look beyond what we are given.
